Rutgers gets rave reviews for being the nation’s third-most hospitable university for veterans.

Rutgers is considered the nation’s third-most hospitable university for veterans, according to the magazine Military Times EDGE, which considered financial assistance, academic flexibility, campus culture, and support services among more than 200 four-year institutions. The university, which established the Office of Veterans Services in 2010 under the direction of retired army colonel Stephen G. Abel, has enrolled 926 military veterans, double the number from three years ago.

Underscoring the university’s support of the military, Rutgers will introduce a four-year program in naval science instruction this fall, available through the newly created Department of Naval Science. It’s part of Rutgers’ successful effort to bring a Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) to the New Brunswick Campus, which has long hosted Army and Air Force ROTC programs.
