Greg Brown, chair and chief executive officer of Motorola Solutions and a Rutgers alumnus, was recently named the new chair of the Rutgers Board of Governors, succeeding Gerald C. Harvey RC’72.

Brown LC’82, who earned a bachelor’s degree in economics, joined Motorola in 2003, was elected to its board of directors in 2007, and became CEO in 2008. He led the successful spin-off of Motorola Mobility in 2011.

A member of the Rutgers Board of Trustees as well, Brown served on the Rutgers University Foundation’s Board of Overseers. He was the keynote speaker at Rutgers’ 246th anniversary commencement in May 2012, when he received a doctor of humane letters degree. In 2010, he was inducted into the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni.

Brown contributed to the recruiting pavilion and welcome center at High Point Solutions Stadium and supports the Rutgers Psychological Clinic at the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. In 2012, the board of directors of Motorola Solutions matched an anonymous gift and donated $1.5 million to create the Gregory Q. Brown Endowed Chair in the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience.

Brown had been vice chair of the Board of Governors and will serve until 2017.
