Rutgers Magazine—which celebrates the research, teaching, and service missions of Rutgers as well as the achievements of its alumni—is published twice a year, in June and November, by the Department of University Communications and Marketing and the Rutgers University Alumni Association at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. It is distributed to nearly 450,000 alumni and friends as well as to Rutgers faculty and staff and New Jersey legislators, local government officials, and high school guidance counselors.
The magazine began in 1914 as Rutgers Alumni Quarterly and became Rutgers Monthly in 1921 and Rutgers Alumni Magazine in 1969. In 1987, the Department of University Relations began publishing Rutgers Magazine, which today is jointly published by the Department of University Communications and Marketing and the Rutgers University Alumni Association.
