Saul Bautista, a 2019 Tillman Scholar, an honor that recognized 60 military veterans for community service, wants to help build a health care system that empowers people to be stewards of their own health through healthy lifestyle choices. Raised in Newark before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 2004, Bautista NCAS’13, NJMS’19 enrolled in the M.D./M.P.H. dual-degree program offered through New Jersey Medical School and the School of Public Health. He founded the NJMS Lifestyle Medicine Interest Group, overseeing student fitness programs and community lifestyle initiatives, and he was involved in Code Blue: Redefining the Practice of Medicine, a documentary produced by Saray Stancic NCAS’89, NJMS’93 that promotes lifestyle medicine. Bautista is a medical resident at Prisma Health/University of South Carolina.
