How a statistician complements her professional life as an accomplished cellist.

By day, Pamela A. Ohman Strickland is a statistician at the School of Public Health, scrutinizing data to find solutions to environmental health problems. By night (or with some down time), she is an accomplished cellist, playing an instrument that frequently transports her to a state of reverie. “With both the analysis of statistics and playing music, I feel like I am using both hemispheres of my brain equally,” says Ohman Strickland, an associate professor of biostatistics at the school, where she is also associate dean for student affairs. “A good musician or statistician sees patterns and brings them out.
