The Rutgers Club, long a retreat for students, alumni, and other members of the Rutgers University–New Brunswick community, is turning 60. Housed within the former Ernest Webb estate at 199 College Avenue, it remains, with its warren of charming rooms, a popular choice for any occasion. “People who met at Rutgers have gotten married here,” says manager Ray Martin. “And they have come back to celebrate anniversaries.” During this anniversary year, more than 200 donors have made contributions to the club, which was established in 1957 and, fittingly, has received a generous gift from the Class of 1957. The Rutgers Club has 2,000 members, who enjoy a reciprocity agreement with more than 100 university clubs. But for those who have enjoyed a Valentine’s Day dinner here or heard live music or witnessed events like Culinary Night, there is nothing quite like the Rutgers Club.
