The School of Engineering at Rutgers will continue to attract talented students and produce highly qualified engineers, thanks to alumnus Richard N. Weeks who made a commitment of $10 million to support undergraduate scholarships at the school. The pledge by Weeks ENG’50 is the largest gift to the engineering school. Weeks’s generosity follows his 2014 pledge of $6 million to help finance the construction of the Richard Weeks Hall of Engineering, which opened in fall 2018.

“The Weeks Endowed Scholarship will elevate the school by helping it nurture future generations of leaders essential to America’s economic, technological, and industrial success,” says Thomas Farris, dean of the school. “The pipeline of highly skilled engineers created by Mr. Weeks’s support will help feed the nation’s growing demand for the profession.”

“With this exceptional gift,” says Rutgers president Robert Barchi, “Mr. Weeks has demonstrated his belief in the power of education to change lives forever. Endowed scholarships help students pursue their dreams while incurring less debt and help Rutgers attract and retain the finest students.”

Weeks, a 2017 inductee of the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni, is the chair of Weeks Marine, a leading construction, dredging, and tunneling firm with operations throughout North America.
