The Middle States Commission on Higher Education recently reaffirmed Rutgers’ accreditation, commending the university for emphasizing affordability and accessibility. The decision follows a multiyear examination of the strides that Rutgers has made since the commission’s last review in 2008, including improvements in operational efficiency and its assimilation of the former University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. “Access to federal and state funding, scholarships, grants, student loans, and research financing hinge on the university’s accreditation, which is also critical to the public’s trust in the value of a Rutgers education,’’ says Rutgers president Robert Barchi.
