Nineteen Rutgers students and alumni received 2015 Fulbright Grants, a prestigious invitation to conduct graduate study and advanced research or to teach in one of more than 140 nations. This places Rutgers, once again, in the top 10 among research universities and in the company of the University of Chicago, Princeton, Harvard, and Yale. The Fulbright Program, a premier international educational exchange program, is sponsored by the federal government and named after the late U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright. Arthur D. Casciato, director of the Rutgers Office of Distinguished Fellowships, says that 124 Rutgers students applied—five shy of last year’s record.

Meanwhile, the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, a top honor given for excellence in mathematics, science, and engineering, went to four Rutgers students, representing majors in biomedical engineering, genetics, and physics. They will be conducting research in stem cells, fundamental particles of matter, genetic disorders, and learning and memory.
