Rutgers–Newark women’s basketball team wins its first championship in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
With its dramatic 54–47 overtime victory over Kean University at the Golden Dome, the Rutgers University–Newark women’s basketball team (16-13) won its first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) championship. The Scarlet Raiders—led by Faith Ashby SASN’19, who was NJAC Player of the Year and First Team All-NJAC guard—also qualified for the NCAA Division III tournament, losing in the first round to SUNY New Paltz. “Rutgers–Newark has put its name on the map as a program,” said Ashby, “and I feel like we can only go up from here.”
