Following a very disappointing 2016–17 season for the Scarlet Knights women’s basketball team (6-24), when five key players, many of them prized transfers, missed the season because of injury, things certainly have been looking up. Behind head coach C. Vivian Stringer, who signed a contract extension before the current season started, the team is much improved because of players like All-Big Ten guard Tyler Scaife, pictured. She is one of the redshirt seniors who, drawing on the frustration of last season as motivation, has rendered the Scarlet Knights far more competitive in the Big Ten on the eve of the conference championships, which begin in late February. Ohio State was the preseason favorite to take the Big Ten title, but you never know with a Stringer-coached team in the mix. That’s why they play the games.
