The Rutgers University Dance Team, chosen to represent the United States as the U.S. National Pom Team, won the Gold Medal at the International Cheer Union (ICU) World Championships, held on April 27 at the Walt Disney World Resort. The dance team took the Team Cheer Freestyle Pom category, defeating 20 competing squads from around the world. The ICU, which has 110 member nations, 70 of which competed in Florida, is in a three-year provisional status with the International Olympic Committee to recognize cheerleading as an Olympic sport.
