After going 22-10 (13-5 Big Ten) and returning to the NCAA tournament last year, the Scarlet Knights women’s basketball team, under returning head coach C. Vivian Stringer, has reason for optimism this season. A pleasant surprise for the team last year was the play of first-year guard Zipporah Broughton (pictured), from Wetumpka, Alabama. This fall, she is joined by two fellow Alabamians, guard Joiya Maddox and center Maori Davenport, both first-year students. As high school players, the three women pulled down just about every state hoops honor out there. Now they have their eyes on the ultimate prize: an NCAA championship for Rutgers.
