Rutgers University–Newark had a memorable 2016–2017 competing in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. With the fall/winter season under way, three teams look to continue their winning ways.

1. Men’s Soccer

Had one of the best seasons in Scarlet Raider history, advancing to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament and featuring seven all-conference performers in winning the regular season title. Sophomore Fabio De Sousa, a first-team All-American last year, will benefit the team, which is ranked eighth nationally in the NCAA’s Division III, according to a prominent coaches’ poll.

2. Women’s Basketball

Became the first #6 seed in league history to reach the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) title game as guard Maria Simmons NCAS’17 won top  honors for her play. Junior Faith Ashby, who was also named All-NJAC, and third-year head coach Ashley Cieplicki lead the way this season.

3. Women’s Volleyball

Led by all-conference performers Karolina Kopacz and Sue Riley, who are returning for their senior years, reached the NJAC tournament for the first time since 2006 and earned a spot in the Eastern College Athletic Conference semis for the  second time in three years.
