After graduating in May with a degree in art history from the School of Arts and Sciences, at Rutgers University–New Brunswick, Emily Evrard knew a match had been made in heaven as she entered 20 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City to start her job at the revered auction house Christie’s. Evrard SAS’18 is the coordinator for auctions and private sales in the Old Masters Paintings Department, working closely with experts and other players in the international art market. It’s a position that places a premium on multitasking—and knowledge, such as the provenance, exhibition history, and scholarship of paintings for clients and catalog entries. Last month, Evrard was swamped as Christie’s prepared for its Old Masters Sale in late October; recently, paintings by names like Rembrandt, da Vinci, and Rubens have sold for eye-popping figures.
